Health insurance that pays doctor and hospital bills usually does not pay for a nursing home or at home care. Long term care policies will pay a nursing home benefit for up to 4 years at an average day cost. Most policies come with a deductible or waiting period, usually 20 days. Coverage is usually available for those between 50 and 84 years old.

Long-Term Care covers help with:

  • daily activities such as bathing, eating, dressing

  • skilled nursing care or rehabilitation training either in a nursing facility or at home

  • cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer's and deals with care-oriented conditions, not cure oriented
